2025 Amelia Island Whale Ambassadors Annual Meeting: “Change the Story”

The Amelia Island Whale Ambassadors met on February 8 at Story and Song Bookstore and Bistro in Fernandina Beach to conduct their annual meeting. The annual meeting is an excellent time to get information on how the calving season is going for the North Atlantic right whale. Their calving season is from November 15-April 15 each year. Amelia Island is at the heart of the calving grounds for this critically endangered species. Richard Timm gave the update for the calving season. He also discussed some of the other issues that affect the North Atlantic right whale, such as progress to update fishing gear to a ropeless system and the impact that could potentially have for the species.

The annual meeting is an opportunity for anyone who joins us to see what activities our group has going on for the year. Volunteer opportunities are presented and give anyone interested a chance to get involved! We greatly appreciate the time that so many people put towards our efforts to protect North Atlantic right whales through education, awareness, and collaboration.
