Hunter Miller (Oceana), Candis Whitney and Krissi Barr (Amelia Island Whale Ambassadors) met with Bryan Campbell, District Director for Representative Aaron Bean to discuss how the Congressman and Congress can help save North Atlantic right whales from extinction.
We highlighted several bills and issues ranging from NOAA funding concerns and HB 8509 which would impact fishing and right whale entanglements in Maine, as well as threats from plastic pollution and expanded offshore drilling.
Bryan said that the Congressman loves Amelia Island – this is his home and where he grew up – and that Representative Bean is committed to protecting things that keep Amelia Island special, like the North Atlantic right whales.
The meeting concluded with everyone looking forward to continuing having open, candid conversations about how to “protect our right whales… before they go extinct”!
