Fall in northeast Florida brings about some really fun events… (a few!) colorful leaves on the trees, the Florida Georgia game, Halloween, and the beginning of the North Atlantic right whale calving season!
Each year, from November to April, the North Atlantic right whale mothers migrate from their feeding grounds in the New England and Cananadian waters to the warmer waters off the coast of the Carolinas to Florida to give birth to and nurture their calves! Amelia Island lies right at the heart of their calving grounds, so what a great place to help spread the word about the arrival of our whales! Local businesses participated in Right Whale Week by doing something to help spread awareness about the whales… some had a special drink, some had whale merchandise or a whale of a sale, whale themed artwork, and some displayed information about our whales. We are so appreciative of everyone who played a part in starting the conversation about the North Atlantic right whale returning to our local waters! Right Whale Week was a great success and we really appreciate everyone who participated and the customers who supported these businesses!
