Who are the Amelia Island Whale Ambassadors?
We are an all-volunteer organization who helps protect North Atlantic right whales through education and awareness. We are located on Amelia Island, Florida, which is the heart of the calving grounds for this critically endangered species. In winter, we are often fortunate to be able to see mothers nurturing their new calves in our warm coastal waters!
Our greatest concern…North Atlantic right whales don’t die of natural causes. They desperately need our help to protect them from their 2 primary threats…entanglement in fishing gear and vessel strikes.
What do we do? How can YOU help?
- Join us in “Talking Whale“ at every opportunity… friends, family, community, and beyond!
- You can join the Amelia Island Whale Ambassadors mailing list by clicking here…🐋🐋🐋. We regularly send out details of our events including festivals, parades, social & informational gatherings, that could benefit from your energy and enthusiasm.
- We will let you know when the Whales need your help in writing to your representatives, when there is legislation that directly affects their safety and well-being.
- We do educational presentations to schools, community groups & clubs, museums, and youth organizations.
- We have created endearing visuals and right whale artwork, to better connect with the spirit of the whales.
- We host training to identify right Whales from the beach, which qualifies participants to receive alerts from the Right Whale Sighting Network.
