World Ocean Day is June 8th!

Earth’s oceans are the home to so many different wonders… fish, coral, plants, (and you know whales are one of our favorites!), sunken treasures, and so many creatures! About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by ocean. So much of the life on our beautiful planet Earth is tied to the ocean. One of the reasons we believe it is so important to make an effort to save the North Atlantic right whale is because of the role they play in the “circle of life”… From one of the smallest creatures in the ocean (copopods) to one of the largest (whales), they are all a part of an ecosystem that relies on each other. The whales eat the copopods, the whales poop, the poop’s iron feeds the phytoplankton, the phytoplankton feeds the copopods, and phytoplankton also creates about half of our atmosphere’s oxygen! What a beautiful circle… that we should care about whether we live near the ocean or not, as long as we enjoy breaths of fresh air!

As we prepare to celebrate World Ocean Day, we would love to take some time to share stories about our favorite experiences with the ocean! In the comments of this post, leave us a note about your favorite ocean memory… it could be walking along the beach, swimming in the water, on a boat, or anything else ocean related… maybe it’s even just a fact you learned about an ocean creature that blew your mind, or a bucket list item! We can’t wait to hear your stories as we get closer to World Ocean Day!!!

We love shark tooth hunting on the beaches of Amelia Island! One of the other delights we have found on the shores is all of the amazing things you will see when tide pools form. Starfish, sand dollars, and crabs are just a few of the treasures that you can see if you look close enough!
